PLCs come in many different sizes, but usually in a rectangular package or square package. Depending on the brand and model, many PLCs with expand with additional modules for digital inputs, digital outputs, analog inputs and analog outputs. When you need more capabilities, going up the PLC product line will offer specialty modules like thermocouple inputs, servo and stepper motor controls, High Speed Counters and RTD (resistive temperature detector) modules.
